About

Ambassador Carol Moseley Braun

Madam President is a political action committee working to elect a woman to serve as President of the United States.

Registered with the Federal Election Commission as a multicandidate political action committee (PAC), Madam President promotes the election of women to the U.S. presidency and vice presidency along with awareness about the many women who have run for U.S. president since 1870.  Woman have been running for president for over 152 years!

In 2005, Madam President PAC began as an affiliate of American Women Presidents PAC, which promoted Democratic and Republican women for president and vice president.  In past elections, affiliated committees worked to recruit women to run for president and helped launch Amb. Carol Moseley Braun's 2004 presidential campaign in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

In 2008 and 2016, Madam President PAC enthusiastically supported Hillary Clinton for president.  In 2020, Madam President endorsed and promoted then Senator Kamala Harris for vice president. And on January 20, 2021, we celebrated her swearing-in as our Vice President!

Amb. Braun earned a Political Science degree and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Chicago.  A former Assistant U.S. Attorney, Braun served in the Illinois House of Representatives (rising to Assistant Majority Leader) and then as Cook County Recorder of Deeds.  In 1992, she won a U.S. Senate seat, becoming the first woman of African American heritage to serve in the United States Senate.
